This English antique comes straight from the 1800s, and is of the typical Victorian style. It has 5 drawers on 4 rows, with the top row split into 2 shorter drawers.

Brass hardware throughout and no deteriorated parts.

The brass hardware were used to replace the original wooden knobs, out of fashion in the Edwardian period and were considered ugly, when the replacement was made. So the upgrade itself is “antique”, and adds to the pieces history and value, while improving the looks significantly and making it an even more special and unique antique piece of furniture.

The chest of 5 drawers was French polished in the same way Victorian craftsmen finished the bureau when it was made in the 1800s.

Even the inside of the drawers was finished, with shellac (melted in alcohol, it’s antiseptic and very clean, non-toxic and environmentally very friendly, and many don’t know that it’s approved by the FDA and edible!)

True to the history of the piece, we restored it, literally, to the looks that the chest had over a century ago.

The bottom drawer has extra space and includes the lower fascia. The piece definitely uses all the space that it takes.

Typical example of fine British cabinetmakers’ work when electricity wasn’t available and synthetic finishing materials and tools were to be invented only many years later. All done by hand with modest tools and equipment, but with great knowledge, tradition, skill and patience…and mostly during daytime!

Dimensions: width 36″ 1/2 - depth 18″- height 42″ (approx)
